on one hand seeing autistic people in the media makes me happy and it’s important that we are recognized but it’s almost always in relation to these young kids having extraordinary talents and how it’s amazing that they’re so gifted “even though they’re autistic” which is really really shitty because it presumes that if we aren’t a genius or a savant we are worthless

autistic people don’t need to be extraordinary to deserve respect.
